Background to the Pilot:
The pilot was launched on 1st October 2008, available across Lothian and Borders for young people aged 16-18, appearing before the Sheriff Court. There were 40 referrals with 18 young people being placed on the programme.

The aim of Opportunities for Change was to provide a robust and effective alternative to custody for young offenders through a joint approach of immediate and intensive support and supervision and wilderness-based personal development. These services were delivered in partnership by Includem and Venture Trust.

The Opportunity for Change project has been developed in partnership wtih the five local authorities in Lothian and Borders (City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian and Scottish Borders), Includem, Venture Trust, Scottish Prison Service, Scottish Courts, Scottish Children's Reporter Administration and Lothian and Borders Community Justice Authority.
