Chaotic Lives Report - The next stage in development improvements for female offenders

Following the publication of the Chaotic Lives Report in 2009, development work is ongoing to take forward the recommendations from the Report. Lothian & Borders CJA has established a Development post for 9 months in partnership wtih the five local authorities with the key outcome being gender specific interventions for women offenders.

The Women Offenders multi agency group is reviewing the other recommendations from the Report and works closely with the Development Worker and the Project Board.

Lothian & Borders Chief Officer, Chris Hawkes, gave evidence at the Equal Opportunities Committee on Female Offenders and this report has been key to further developing the links with Health, Scottish Prison Service, Social Work and the Voluntary Sector. The Government welcomed the Report as it reflects many of the issues they have identified to improve the management and support of women offenders in prison and the community. This has led to additional funding of £100,000 being allocated to each of the eight CJAs for further investment to support women offenders and reduce their risk of reoffending.
